I pulled up in front of the security booth of her apartment and there she was in dark blue jeans, a rust halter top with matching colored gettin’-it-from-the-back heeled sandals. I put the truck in park when I reached her, hopped out, and made my way around to her. Damn, she was working those jeans. “I feel like less of a gentleman picking you up on the street.”

“Don’t.” She smiled as she opened her arms, inviting me to a quick hug. “I needed the exercise. My apartment is in the first building, so the walk was nothing.”

My fingertips touched her waist and I instantly remembered not to slide down to her ass afterward. I had to work my brain a little extra so that that mistake wasn’t made. Her perfume nearly hypnotized me. I had to pull away before my lips made a beeline to hers. “You clean up good, Sarai,” I said. “You’ve come a long way from that hospital ponytail and that paper gown with one booty cheek hanging out.”

She blushed. “Tell me you didn’t see my butt.”

“I didn’t,” I lied. “But almost, that one time I met you coming out of the bathroom.” I laughed. “I don’t think they make hospital gowns for asses like yours.”

“Stop.” She slapped me on my hand. “You’re embarrassing me.” I reached for the truck and opened the door to reveal the small arrangement of purple flowers on the seat…for me it was déjà vu all over again…for her it was something brand-new. “Oh my goodness, thank you.” She picked them up. “Purple is my favorite color.” She nose-dived into the flowers. “Thank you so much, they smell great.”

“No.” I grabbed her hand. “Thank you for making time for me this evening.” I smiled, still holding her by the hand. “Let me help you in.”
